I need to bleed the brakes / dsc/abs pump in my car after replacing the brake booster.
I tried using ISTA-D but it doesn’t seem to connect to my car (although ISTA-D does connect to my E82 135i so maybe my ’05 X5 E53 is just too old)? I did try “Old Models” (Shift+F9) but that doesn’t have E53 in there either.
So I installed INPA on Windows XP in a VM. The ignition and battery dots are both black however I don’t see E53 in the list (See attached image).
What do I need to do to talk to get INPA to work with the E53 ECUs?
I think I’ve got it. It appears my INPA.ini was not set up correctly.
I searched my C: for “INPA.ini” and found a copy in C:\INPA – this file had the “E53” option defined on F3
I also found a copy in C:\EC-APPS\INPA\CFGDAT – this file had the 3 lines for “F3” commented out.
So I copied the 3 lines for F3 from C:\INPA\INPA.ini into C:\EC-APPS\INPA\CFGDAT\INPA.ini – I can now see E53 in INPA. I will try this with the car and report back if it doesn’t work.
For reference I am using Windows XP 32 bit running as a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 14 on an Asus Windows 8.1 laptop.
