I am wondering do I have to connect my GM MDI diagnostic tool to network when using it to program. My GM MDI is bought from obd2eshop in August. Can you help me? Thank you very much.

Yes, you should connect GM MDI scanner to the network and skip all the software installation or java upgrade messages while using it. For example, when you see message like below, you should select skip rather than install. 
Otherwise, your MDI will have a connection problem, which could be very troublesome. Trust me. I have purchased a MDI from China too. Do not ever try to accept the installation.
